1. Advantages of SMAW

1) Simple welding equipment needed.The price is get more and more commercial by technology updated.

2).Welding rods of SMAW are supplied amplitudinous and full of different specifications,application to all metal except active metal and insoluble materials, and the quality of the joint reach to high standards.

3) Widly application for home use and fabricator use.Like windows,advertising steel frame,farm fence repair,bike repair,auto-car shop,marine use,etc.


2. Disadvantages of SMAW

1). Welding productivity is low: not suitable for high current welding , it is difficult to do high-current welding job;Replacement of electrodes and clear welding slag off prolonged welding cycle; shallow penetration welding, It is need to gouge if the metal sheet thicker than 5mm.

3). Narrow scope of welding: the minimum thickness limit is 1.5mm by process adaptability,maximum thickness is 20mm by economic considerations

3. Applications of SMAW

SMAW is a high quality welding process.It widely used as follows:

carbon steel, low alloy steel, high alloy steels and nickel-chromium stainless steel. Non-ferrous metals can also take SMAW, but joint quality IS not as good as tungsten TIG welding and MIG welding.
